There aren't enough O's on my keyboard to spell how smoooooth the railroad was run last month. Last month was also bring your child to work day, the PCR crews were shown by the kids how to get some work done and run the trains smoothly and steadily. All scheduled trains were run and deliveries were made.

In other news, the PCR maintenance crews prepared some short 32' open coal hoppers for service. These cars will be in service out of the Delmont Mines as empties.

Empty hopper cars are a challenge to get the weight up to the NMRA standard, every nook and cranny must be filled with solid lead. An original weight was made from sheet styrene, then, a plaster casting was made from the original. After it dries completely, lead is heated and poured into the mold, as the lead cools, it is moved or smoothed into the corners.

The lead weight is then filed to the proper thickness.
And finally, the photo backdrop is hangin' in there. The spray glue allowed me to pull a section down and work some wrinkles out.

This month's operating session is this Friday, May 19th, starting around 7:00pm. Hope to see you there.
